    Regular school hours at U.S. Jones Elementary School are as follows:


    7:00 am                       Gym Opens

    7:10 – 7:40                  Cafeteria opens for breakfast at 7:10 and closes at 7:40.

    7:40 – 7:53                  Start of School – Homeroom

    7:53                             Daily Instruction Begins

                                        (Students arriving to class after this time will be classified as tardy.)

    10:55 – 1:00                Lunch

                                                    10:55 – 12:00               5th grade Lunch

                                                    11:35 – 12:40               3rd grade Lunch

                                                    11:55 – 1:00                 4th grade Lunch

    3:03                 End of Day Dismissal

    • 3rd grade dismissed and any 4th or 5th grade students who ride home with a 3rd grader and any student who rides the WA bus and the Teacher bus.

    3:05                 End of the Day Dismissal Continues

    • 4th and 5th students who ride home, walk or report to the Theo Center
    • Students who stay for Extended Day or Tutoring will report to the Cafeteria.


    Teachers are assigned specific duty posts until 3:15.  At 3:15, 3rd grade students will remain at the front of the school on the library steps.  4th and 5th grade students who are not picked up by 3:15 will report to the front of the school at the library steps where an assigned teacher will supervise them.  The assigned teacher, or any other school personnel, will not assume responsibility for students for more than thirty (30) minutes after the time set for closing the normal school day’s classes (3:35).  Your child will be placed in Extended Day and the parent/guardian will be charged for Extended Day accordingly.







    The Demopolis City School System believes that regular attendance is important to students.  Regular attendance by students facilitates development of skills and knowledge necessary to function in today’s society (This includes students checking in and out of school).  Therefore, the school endeavors to secure, in compliance with Alabama law, the prompt and regular attendance of students and to secure proper conduct, and to hold respective parents/guardians/custodians responsible and liable for their children’s non-attendance or improper conduct.

  • Congratulations to our USJ Math Team for all the awards they won at this years Perennial Math Competition! 

    3rd grade: (there were 55 third graders competing and 12 third grade teams)
    US Jones winners:
    2nd place individual math test - TIE between Clarrissa Smith & Ivory Sanders
    2nd place team test - Clarissa Smith, Ivory Sanders, Millie Hill, Conner Reynolds and Brantley Rice
    5th grade: (there were 75 fifth graders and 15 fifth grade teams)
    US Jones winners:
    2nd place individual math test - Samuel Barnes
    3rd place individual math test - TIE between Brad Pruett & Trey Pritchett..       We only took 15 kids, and we won 4 categories!  Perennial Math
