Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff, and Community Members:
Demopolis City Schools is aware of increased condensation and signs of mildew in a few classrooms at Demopolis High School. This issue is isolated to a very small number of classrooms, and we are actively working to identify the cause and resolve it as quickly as possible.
Demopolis High School is equipped with new HVAC units. In accordance with Chapter 4 of the Alabama Mechanical Code, these units introduce outside air into classrooms to provide appropriate ventilation. Each classroom has its own individual HVAC unit; the school does not operate a central chiller system that supplies conditioned air throughout the entire building.
The engineer who designed the new HVAC system has visited the campus and installed sensors in the affected areas. These sensors will help evaluate temperature, humidity, ventilation, and equipment performance so the engineer can determine why increased condensation is occurring in certain classrooms.
We are working closely with the engineer and other appropriate professionals to monitor conditions and adjust the individual classroom units as necessary to reduce condensation and prevent further moisture-related concerns. We will continue assessing the situation and taking appropriate corrective measures until the issue is fully resolved.
The safety and well-being of every student and staff member are priorities we take seriously each and every day. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work diligently to address this isolated concern.
Sincerely,
Adam Pugh
Superintendent
Demopolis City Schools
