National Principal Month continues as we recognize Tisha Lewis, Westside Elementary Principal. Mrs. Lewis is married to Johnny Lewis Jr. They have three children, Ashton, Amber, and Aaron. Tisha is a native of Marengo County, originating from Sweetwater. She began her education career as a social studies teacher, then moved to elementary counseling. From there she served as an elementary assistant principal as well as a secondary assistant principal until she came to DCS. Mrs. Lewis stated one of the reasons she came to Westside was because growing up, Demopolis was the place to be, but mostly because of “all the little smiles”. “It is the most rewarding job. No matter how my day is going, they make me happy. If you want to have something to smile about, just come to Westside.” - Tisha Lewis

It is an honor and a privilege to work at Westside Elementary with Tisha Lewis as my administrator. Mrs. Lewis is the true definition of what a principal should be, and I am blessed by her leadership on a daily basis. Mrs. Lewis helps lead, guide, encourage, and motivate me, and she is always there when I need support or a listening ear. Mrs. Lewis’s love for her faculty and staff is evident, and I know that her door is always open during times of need.
Mrs. Lewis adores each child at WES as well. The students have personal relationships with her and they also have a sense of respect for her as well. She encourages each child to be the very best they can be by implementing “Westside’s Leader of the Week.” She also makes school such a fun, safe learning environment for our students by greeting them with a kind “hello” each and every morning.
Mrs. Lewis wears many hats at WES. She just recently helped our custodian by mopping classrooms on her off weekend. She plays the role of teacher, nurse, counselor, mother, and friend to so many at WES.
I am truly blessed to have Tisha Lewis as my Principal, and I pray she always knows how grateful and appreciative I am for her.
