Demopolis City Schools Embarks on Phase 2 of Infrastructure Modernization and Celebrates Earth Day

Modernization project in partnership with energy and efficiency expert, Schneider Electric, will update HVAC systems across all schools

The district will hold an Earth Day event with Westside Elementary second graders and Schneider Electric team

Demopolis, AL – April 18, 2024 – Demopolis City Schools is proud to announce the launch of the second phase of our infrastructure modernization project, in collaboration with energy and efficiency expert, Schneider Electric. This project is part of our ongoing efforts to provide students with a comfortable and modern learning environment.

To celebrate Earth Day and kick off Phase 2, Demopolis City Schools will host a special event on Thursday, April 18, at Westside Elementary School. We are excited to welcome team members from Schneider Electric, who will join our second-grade students in a series of educational and engaging activities designed to raise awareness about sustainability and the environment.

Phase 1 demonstrated our dedication to modernizing our infrastructure, and the resulting energy savings have been significant. Substantial upgrades at Demopolis High School and across the district, including comprehensive LED lighting updates and a new building automation system, have laid a solid groundwork for future developments.

As we commence Phase 2, our primary focus will be on the comprehensive redesign and replacement of HVAC systems across all our schools. With over $1 million in grants and funding secured towards this initiative, we are confident in the project’s potential to significantly enhance the learning environments within our schools.

Superintendent Tony Willis stated, "The initiation of Phase 2 marks a significant step forward in our commitment to improving our educational facilities. We believe that by creating a more energy-efficient, comfortable, and modern learning environment, we can greatly enhance student engagement and success. Our partnership with Schneider Electric is instrumental in achieving these goals, and we are deeply grateful for their expertise and support."

Despite the outdated electrical infrastructure at our middle and elementary schools, we are developing innovative solutions that will allow the successful implementation of new HVAC systems without immediate electrical upgrades. These soon-to-be installed HVAC systems will be fully integrated with our recently installed building automation controls, ensuring seamless operation and enhanced efficiency.

As the weather warms, our team is also working hard to devise temporary cooling solutions, mitigating any risk of overloaded circuits and ensuring the comfort of our students and staff during this transitional period.

As we celebrate Earth Day, we take pride in our commitment towards creating a more efficient and comfortable learning environment for all. Together, we look forward to building a future where every classroom supports the best in education.
