Inclusive Week

Last week Demopolis City Schools recognized Inclusive Schools Week. Our district came together to celebrate the values of belonging, kindness, and acceptance through activities that showcased unity and compassion across all campuses.

At U.S. Jones, students participated in meaningful projects that celebrated inclusion and friendship. They created stockings filled with encouraging messages to remind every student that they are valued and loved. To wrap up the week, students collaborated to write and perform an original song, lifting their voices as one to celebrate the spirit of togetherness in their school.

At Westside, the week included cheerful visits from the Grinch and Sparkles the Elf, reminding everyone of the importance of kindness. Students also read Where Oliver Fits, a story about individuality and belonging, and created colorful gingerbread men for their classroom “bakery”—a creative display representing each student’s uniqueness.

At DHS, students reflected on what makes them feel welcome by writing statements on colorful paper strips, which were linked together to form a Unity Chain. Displayed with an “I Belong Here” sign, the chain served as a powerful visual reminder of inclusion, accessibility, and community across the school.

At DMS, Mrs. Tucker’s students enjoyed weekly library visits supported by their peers, who helped them choose books, read together, and complete puzzles. During PE, students joined in cooperative games, building friendships and demonstrating what true peer inclusion looks like in action.

Across every campus, Inclusive Schools Week reinforced one message: everyone belongs, everyone matters, and together, we make our schools stronger.
