📝 Stop by the front office to fill out an application!
Don’t miss out! ❤️

We’ve had such a fun week so far with our grandparents! Tomorrow is 2nd Grade’s turn.

This year, Westside is using Beanstack to encourage students to read. Make sure that you got the flyer that came home with more information and directions to download the app. Then you’ll be ready to start logging reading minutes at home. Even Kindergarten students can participate by listening to an adult read! Reading books to your child builds essential language skills, expands their vocabulary, and develops a love of reading.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of West Alabama is offering DHS students the opportunity to become a High School Big and mentor a student at Westside Elementary School!
This is your chance to build a meaningful connection, serve as a positive role model, and make a lasting difference in a child’s life. Plus, students can earn community service credit for their participation!
Pick up an application in Ms. Pacheco’s office at the DHS Library.

Pre-K Grandparents' Lunch

Grandparents' Lunch Schedule for Tuesday!

Fall Picture Dates!!!

We are so excited that it is Grandparents' and Bookfair Week at Westside!

Mrs. Thomasson’s class got to practice arrays and repeated addition today… with a little help from some delicious cookie cereal! 😋
Students built arrays, counted equal groups, and connected their arrays to repeated addition. They were definitely motivated to get their math right when they knew they could eat their manipulatives afterward! 😂🍪
Learning is always a little sweeter in 2nd grade! 💜📚✨

Work hard…play hard! Mrs. Basinger’s 2nd grade class is enjoying “Fun Station Friday!”

🐯 We’re ROARING with pride! 🐯
Congratulations to this week’s Students of the Week! 🎉 These awesome Tigers have worked hard, shown kindness, and made WES proud.

WES t-shirt order deadline is tomorrow!!!

📚🧻 From the Papermill to Our Classroom! 🧻📚
Our 2nd graders have been learning all about how paper is made.
We had the opportunity to welcome Bella Bass, a local papermill worker at Smurfit Westrock, who came and spoke to our grade about how the papermaking process works. Our students loved learning about what happens at the mill and getting to see examples of the many products they make that we use in our everyday lives!
Then, we took what we learned and put it into action! 🙌🏼 When we returned to our classroom, our students got to make their very own paper! They loved getting hands-on and experiencing a small part of the papermaking process for themselves.
It was such a fun way to connect our classroom learning to the real world and see how something as simple as a piece of paper goes from a process at the mill to something we use every day. 🌎📖

Mrs. Roark’s 2nd grade students have been learning all about solids, liquids, and gases! 🧪✨ They had a blast putting their learning into action by making root beer floats and identifying each state of matter along the way. 🥤🍦 Learning is always more fun when it comes with a sweet treat! 💙🐯

Our Pre-K friends have been learning all about the color GREEN this week! 🐸🌿🍀 From finding green things to fun hands-on activities, our little learners have had a GREEN-tastic week! 💚✨
