Thanksgiving break is here! Demopolis City Schools will be closed the week of November 20-24, 2024. Monday, November 27 is Data Day (Professional Development) for faculty. Students will not return to school until Tuesday, November 28. We hope you have a wonderful break. Demopolis City Schools is thankful for each and everyone of you!

U.S. Jones Beta Club encouraged all students to make Christmas card for military personnel stationed overseas. Mrs. Anne came and picked up our cards this morning. She shared with us all of her relatives who have served on the military. We even got to see the huge plane her son flies.

Hats off to the chefs!! The USJ cafeteria chefs outdid themselves with this year's Thanksgiving feast! It was delicious!!

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the Beta Club and Demopolis Rotary Club food drive. We were a little short of our goal of 3,000 items, but after Mr. Shipman challenged the students to bring in more, we exceeded our goal and collected 3,298 non-perishable food items. We hope this act of service has taught our students that it is better to give, than to receive! Although this was a friendly competition between classes, the real winners are the recipients of this donation.
Students created Thanksgiving themed art in Mrs. Mackey's art class!

Mrs. Harrison visited some third grade classrooms to share a book, make a literacy snack, and work on some creative writing.

Since it was geometrical shape day on Tuesday, Mrs. Singletons math students had to get creative with shapes! They are also using bar graphs to find out which sweets are the class favorites. Learning to measure in inches and in feet! #alabamaachieves #OMInumeracynovember

Mrs. Singleton's math students participated in several measurement activities yesterday for "Measure it Monday" ~Numeracy November!

Mrs. Nikki , from 4H, came today and brought a lesson that tied into Numeracy November~ Measure it Monday. Students had to work together to build the tallest tower using spaghetti noodles, string, tape, and a marshmallow on top. Lots of great conversations and strategies were used. #ominumeracynovember #alabamaachieves

Today, our Peer Helpers met to discuss ways they can support their peers this school year. Cookies may have been involved! The PH program teaches a diverse group of students core skills to help them identify and communicate with their at risk classmates. The concept is based on the fact that when a young person is seeking help, they will likely reach out to their peers long before turning to an adult. Once trained, the peer helpers can offer their fellow students encouragement and assistance with day-to-day challenges. They may serve as tutors, mentors, mediators, and support systems for their peers. Peer Helpers serve as role models to their peers and assistants to Mrs. Windham and Mrs.Bedsole, PH coordinators.
