Principals Day
Demopolis City Schools is going GREEN for Mental Health Awareness Day Tuesday, May 6. Mental Health is our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It is how we think, feel, and act. It helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make healthy choices. Supportive families, communities, and resources can help our students build strong foundations for lifelong mental well-being. · By teaching children and teens coping skills, we can empower them to take charge of their mental health. · Know the signs of mental health issues in children and teens. Early diagnosis and treatment can save lives. · Start the conversation early: talking about mental health can help children and teens build coping skills and feel comfortable with their emotions. · Nurturing relationships and environments are important for helping children and teens develop good mental health and manage life stressors in healthy ways. · Good mental health increases the ability of children and teens to practice self-care and face challenges with resilience. CURRENT YOUTH CDC DATA: More than 20% of children ages 3-17 have a diagnosed mental health disorder. This is around 1 out of every 5 kids. 13.6% of youth (17 yrs and under) have reported having serious thoughts of suicide. 40% of high schoolers report feeling persistent sadness or hopelessness. This is 1 out of every 4 students.
