Today, Demopolis City Schools hosted the Alabama Reading Initiative (ARI) District Leadership Lab at Westside Elementary School. We are honored to be the second district in our region to host this important professional learning opportunity.
The ARI District Leadership Lab supports district leaders as they work to effectively implement the Alabama Literacy Act (ALA). Through authentic learning experiences, collaborative conversations with fellow district leaders, and valuable networking opportunities, participants explored strategies and shared successes in strengthening literacy instruction across Alabama.
We are grateful for the opportunity to welcome leaders from across the region and showcase the great work happening in our schools as we continue to support student literacy and achievement.

DCS Families, February is Career and Technical Education Month and DHS would like to invite you to the CTE Open House! Come see programs designed to prepare students for careers, certifications, and college pathways—beyond the traditional academic classroom. Families and students will tour labs, see hands-on learning in action, and meet CTE instructors who connect classroom learning to real careers.

Monday, February 16 will be an e-Learning day for all four schools. Students will not report to school on this day.
Demopolis High School will dismiss Friday, February 6 at 12:00 in order for students and staff to be able to attend the services for Hunter Howell. Visitation will be held at First Methodist Church of Demopolis on Friday, February 6, 2026 from 12:30 pm until the 2:00 pm service time. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Demopolis, Alabama.

Demopolis is buzzing with excitement as we proudly welcome Mark Heaton back home as our new DCS Athletic & Facilities Director and Coach Dustin Goodwin as the returning Head Football Coach at DHS!
Both proud DHS alumni—Heaton (’97) and Goodwin (’03)—bring leadership, heart, and a deep love for our community. Their return marks a full-circle moment for Demopolis, full of pride, tradition, and new energy for the future of Tiger athletics.
