There is a possibility of winter weather across West Alabama Friday. DCS administrators are keeping a close watch on weather forecasts with constant updates from the national weather service and Marengo County EMA. We expect to announce a decision before school dismisses today on whether there will be any delays or closures Friday. Student and staff safety is always a top priority.
School closure announcements will be made via social media, calls, and texts. Please stay weather aware.
Due to the threat of freezing road conditions in the morning, and out of an abundance of caution, DCS will conduct a Virtual/ E-Learning Day tomorrow, Friday, January 10.
All schools will be closed.
Students should receive assignments for the day through their learning managements systems (Clever, Schoology, Google Classroom, etc.) or packets. Please stay safe.

Fall Fest 2024 was a huge success!! Thank you to our faculty, staff, Plaza Golf Carts, Jeff McAfee, and the Fall Fest Committee. What a way to begin our Thanksgiving break!
Demopolis City Schools will be closed Monday, November 11 for the observance of Veterans Day. Faculty and students will return to school Tuesday, November 12.
Tomorrow, November 5, 2024, please vote YES for the Demopolis City Schools - 5 mill tax renewal. Note: This is NOT a new tax. Demopolis has been paying this one for 30 years and it has to be voted on to be renewed for another 30 years.
This tax provides approximately $1,000,000.00 per year for the DCS school system. Many of the athletics' expenses (maintenance, fields, some coaching stipends, etc), as well as facilities (all buildings) maintenance are provided through this tax since the State Department of Education does not allocate those type expenses. It also provides funds to help pay for teachers that are not funded by state allocations.
Please share this information with your family, friends, neighbors, churches, groups, etc. We NEED this 5 mill tax to be renewed.

Dear Parents and Guardians,
I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to take a moment to share how proud I am of our students following Thursday’s Love Like Lexi assembly. Their behavior was exemplary, and they demonstrated respect and attentiveness. For lack of a better phrase, you could have heard a pin drop in the gym throughout the assembly.
Our students represented our school community with pride and set a positive example for each other. It’s clear that the values we strive to teach daily are being embraced, and I couldn’t be more thrilled with their maturity and conduct.
Thank you for your continued support in helping us nurture such wonderful students. It truly takes a team effort, and we appreciate the role you play in encouraging these positive behaviors at school.

We are so proud of our DMS football team, coaches, cheerleaders, majorettes, and water girls. It was an awesome season! Thank you to everyone who came out last night to support the tigers. Understanding "Secure the Perimeter" and "Lockdown"
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I hope this message finds you well. I want to take a moment to clarify the difference between two important safety protocols: “Secure the Perimeter” and “Lockdown.” Understanding these terms is crucial for our community’s safety.
**Secure the Perimeter**: This protocol is initiated when there is a potential threat outside the school, somewhere in the community; therefore, the message on Tuesday clearly stated that the incident was off campus. During this time, we ensure that all exterior doors are locked, and outdoor activities are paused. Students remain in their classrooms or designated safe areas until we can confirm that the situation is under control.
**Lockdown**: This procedure is activated when there is an imminent threat inside the school building. During a lockdown, all students and staff are directed to secure themselves in a classroom or safe area, turning off lights and remaining quiet. Communication will be limited until authorities determine it is safe to resume normal activities.
We regularly review and practice these procedures to ensure our students and staff are prepared. Your understanding and support are vital in maintaining a safe environment for everyone.
