Dear Parents and Guardians, I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to take a moment to share how proud I am of our students following Thursday’s Love Like Lexi assembly. Their behavior was exemplary, and they demonstrated respect and attentiveness. For lack of a better phrase, you could have heard a pin drop in the gym throughout the assembly. Our students represented our school community with pride and set a positive example for each other. It’s clear that the values we strive to teach daily are being embraced, and I couldn’t be more thrilled with their maturity and conduct. Thank you for your continued support in helping us nurture such wonderful students. It truly takes a team effort, and we appreciate the role you play in encouraging these positive behaviors at school. We are so proud of our DMS football team, coaches, cheerleaders, majorettes, and water girls. It was an awesome season! Thank you to everyone who came out last night to support the tigers. You looked amazing in your pink! We would like to give a special shout-out to TJ the Tiger for providing the pink shakers and tattoos--thanks, TJ! The eighth grade cheerleaders would also like to thank the cheerleaders and coaches for providing a sweet treat as part of 8th grade recognition. Thank you, ladies! We love and appreciate you! Finally, thank you, Kim Easley-Bell, for all you did behind the scenes to help make our season a success. There are not enough words to express our gratitude.

The Alabama State Board of Education has recognized 14 schools and 2 school districts for their strong commitment to Alabama’s K-3 learners, particularly for demonstrating growth in outcome data for proficiency and sufficiency that exceeds the state average. Today, Demopolis City Schools is honored as one of only two districts this year in the state to be named a Science of Reading Spotlight School District. Fall Break is almost here! Friday, October 11, teachers will be on campus for Data Day. Students will NOT report to school Friday. Students will return to school Wednesday, October 16. Understanding "Secure the Perimeter" and "Lockdown" Dear Parents and Guardians, I hope this message finds you well. I want to take a moment to clarify the difference between two important safety protocols: “Secure the Perimeter” and “Lockdown.” Understanding these terms is crucial for our community’s safety. **Secure the Perimeter**: This protocol is initiated when there is a potential threat outside the school, somewhere in the community; therefore, the message on Tuesday clearly stated that the incident was off campus. During this time, we ensure that all exterior doors are locked, and outdoor activities are paused. Students remain in their classrooms or designated safe areas until we can confirm that the situation is under control. **Lockdown**: This procedure is activated when there is an imminent threat inside the school building. During a lockdown, all students and staff are directed to secure themselves in a classroom or safe area, turning off lights and remaining quiet. Communication will be limited until authorities determine it is safe to resume normal activities. We regularly review and practice these procedures to ensure our students and staff are prepared. Please rest assured that the issue was not on our campus, and it has been fully resolved. Our students and staff remained safe at all times, and the school day will continue as normal. Due to the forecast of rain from Hurricane Francine, the DHS Homecoming Parade and Bonfire scheduled for Thursday, September 12, 2024, has been cancelled. The game is still on for Friday night! We would love for everyone to come out and support the Tigers! Thank you for understanding! Go Tigers!

Wednesday's homecoming dress up day at DMS is Surfers vs. Bikers. Wear your Hawaiian shirt or jeans & jacket! Also, as you are driving by our campus, please take a look at the stationary floats our teachers and students worked so hard on. We will have to move them tomorrow afternoon because of the rain that is heading our way. Have a great evening!
