Sergeant Richard Bryant of the Demopolis Police Department talked with 1st and 2nd grade students about several topics. Since we were closing out our Red Ribbon Week, he discussed the difference in good and bad drugs and shared a video explaining how we should say “NO!” to drugs. Sergeant Bryant also discussed safety tips if they choose to go trick-or-treating.The assembly ended with a discussion of PBIS and how Westside is focusing on positive behavior of students. Students were encouraged to meet the 3 school expectations: Respect Others, Respect Yourself, and Respect Your School.

We wrapped up our Red Ribbon Week today by being “too cool” for drugs. 🕶😎

This week’s “leader of the week” is Shep Krusmark. He is a 1st grade student in Mrs. Stewart’s class. Shep is very helpful and kind. He lends a helping hand when needed. We are proud of leaders like Shep at WES.

October is National Principal Appreciation Month, and we could not let it pass by without letting Mrs. Lewis know how much she is appreciated. She always has a friendly smile on her face and is open minded about trying new things. Westside faculty, staff, and students are lucky to have you! We love you, Mrs. Lewis! 💕

We can’t wait to see all of our little leaders in their costumes on Monday! 🎃

Every First Grade student was asked to create a character pumpkin. The character was from a story they read. They also completed a report describing their character and the book. Many skills and standards were covered while completing this activity, not to mention an opportunity to demonstrate artistic skills and have fun with their families.
