Westside demonstrated their pride in being drug free today by wearing red. Happy Red Ribbon Week! #bedrugfree

October is Dyslexia Awareness Month which is also represented by the color red. Today our staff wants to bring awareness to Dyslexia and emphasize our desire to provide our students with successful reading instruction in the following areas: Comprehension, Fluency, Vocabulary, Phonics and Phonemic Awareness. Westside is committed to implementing the science of reading in our daily instruction. Let’s go WES!!!!!!!

This week’s “leader of the week” is Zaniya Fluker. She is a 2nd grade student in Mrs. Basinger’s class. Zaniya makes good choices and respects her school. We are proud of leaders like Zaniya at WES.

Congratulations to Mrs. Stanford for receiving a grant from the Demopolis City Schools Foundation for technology themed trade books.

Fall Festival has been postponed!

Please take this time to wash all backpacks, lunchboxes, and jackets. We hope to keep all of our students free from illness. Please do not return to school until you have been fever free for at least 24 hours!!

Don't forget that we are celebrating Red Ribbon Week this week. Make plans to wear your special item each day to join in the celebration.

Mrs. Basinger’s class enjoyed making “beaded number lines” to use during math time!

STEM challenge in Mrs. Little’s first grade - Students were challenged with building a fence for their five little pumpkins.

Mrs. Martin’s class had another spooky math lesson today! After reading Ten Timid Ghosts, they created haunted houses with ghosts. To put ghosts on their house, they had to roll a dice and tell a number greater or less than their roll.

We absolutely LOVED having the Demopolis Tiger Football Team at Westside this morning to welcome our students to school! Good luck tonight in your game. GO TIGERS! 🏈🐾🐅

PreK teachers are at the 2022 Early Childhood Education Conference. They are thrilled to learn new strategies and activities they can bring back to elevate our already amazing WES classrooms.

Make plans now to participate in Red Ribbon Week next week.

Mrs. Stewart’s class has been learning about the ancient civilization or Mesopotamia. Today, they talked about how the Mesopotamians used tablets made of clay to write in cuneiform. They used play-doh to make their tablets and wrote their names in cuneiform like the Mesopotamians.

Mrs Stevens’ Pre-K class enjoyed a pumpkin investigation this morning measuring the pumpkin, counting the seeds, and having fun carving it!

Westside had a “Pink Out” day today to show support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
